Until it launches, it’s just Resident Elect
At an online event, Capcom has revealed an updated trailer and gameplay for its upcoming Resident Evil Village. The game, the 8th in the mainline series, takes Resident Evil 7‘s Ethan Winter and thrusts him into a supernatural horror. Yes, there are still zombies, but now vampires(?) and floating ghost things, and everything else in between will join forces to terrify players in first person view, something that worked really well in RE7.
Capcom announced a May 7, 2021 launch date for the game, which will now also hit PS4 and Xbox One as well as the previously announced PS5/Xbox Series and PC. An exclusive non-combat demo has launched on PS5.
Capcom also revealed Resident Evil Re:Verse, a multiplayer third-person shooter that takes levels and characters from previous Resident Evil games and throws them together into a free-for-all, like God intended. The dev team is utilizing a comic book art style, perhaps to help bridge the different characters together easier, or perhaps to help during the development process for now — there’s no explanation why. The game is currently testing in beta, and there’s no release date or price yet, but it will be free for those who purchase RE8.
