Halo Infinite delayed to 2021

Xbox’s premiere title takes a hit into next year

In a shocking move that will send ripples across the games industry, Microsoft and 343 Industries have announced that the flagship game for the Xbox platform in 2020 will be delayed into 2021.

Just around 3 weeks ago, Microsoft kicked off its XBox Series X games showcase with the reveal of Halo’s gameplay, and set it as its pivotal release for this calendar year. It would anchor the upcoming Series X (and the unannounced Series S) console, and be available for current gen and PC as well, and bring everything Microsoft under one roof for a mega launch.

Now that’s just a fleeting dream, as the realities of the COVID pandemic continue to affect the gaming industry, from the smallest developers to the largest publishers. 343 specifically cited the need to polish up the game further. And, from this reporter’s perspective, the mixed messaging and lackluster debut have only hurt the game, not helped it. A delay was needed for many reasons.

Halo: Infinite will arrive in 2021.
