New features, career mode and more coming to the sim racing series
Developer Slightly Mad Studios have revealed that the next iteration of their much-loved (I LOVE IT) series is racing in this Summer (aka Winter for our southern hemisphere friends).
Project CARS 3 will feature a new engine, but that same focus on sim racing… with additions for this third time around. Previous games were often viewed as too hardcore. That is, they tended to rely so heavily on realism and drivetrain physics that glancing players couldn’t get into it. That limits and only slightly grows your audience, even if your goal is to maintain that fine tuning. With PC3 the developers (and new owners Codemasters) are opening up the game a little bit. Yes, there are still fabled tracks from around the world, but now you also have courses within city streets.
While the amazing physics realism is still there, the visuals have been upgraded and the capability to customize and tune vehicles is also enhanced. Day/night cycles, weather, new tire calculations — and now the game will actually allow some assistance to drivers who may need it. No, it’s not going casual; instead it’s now opening its arms a bit to let casual players have a better chance at enjoying it. I may personally stick to more of the tight simulation modes, but other family members may want to just have fun driving their favorite cars.
Oh, and now there are 200+ cars and 140 tracks at launch, which marks the highest number yet for the series, including the new Chevy Corvette C8.R.
Project CARS 3 is scheduled to hit later this year on PC (at 12k!!), PS4 and Xbox One.
