Well, there’s no E3 this year, but there’s still a lot going on. It may not be all in one week any more, so we’ll have to keep hitting the refresh button on all of the updated events.
At least we have our memories!
While there may not be an Xbox event scheduled this month, there will be a lot of games revealed that will be hitting the console. In the mean time, take a look at all of Microsoft’s E3 XBox Press conferences of the past, and get excited all over again!

[Previously posted in the lead-up to E3 2019, now with new videos]
2001: The Xbox’s first E3. It debuted at CES, but whatever. Here are the games!
2002: While it’s difficult to find the full stream, here’s a montage that was released afterward showing the glory that was Steel Battalion
2003: This year the event was hosted by an impossibly cheesy schtick using a trio of speakers. At least Halo 2, KOTOR and Fable were revealed!
2004: XBLA is announced, Forza debuts, and Half-Life 2!
2005: The Xbox 360 is announced during the biggest E3 press production to date, and setting the standard for how press conferences would take place afterwards.
2006: After a successful launch, Xbox drops the mic with games like Bioshock, Mass Effect and a shaggy Cliffy B revealing Gears of War gameplay
2007: With the console generation fully under way, Microsoft showed us Modern Warfare, Fallout 3, and Halo 3. Though there was a full conference video available online, it was muted due to a copyright claim and so we’re left with the montage below. :(
2008: Modern Warfare 2, Resident Evil 5, Final Fantasy XIII and Gears of War 2! And Don Mattrick!
2009: Alan Wake, Assassin’s Creed 2, Halo Reach, and Mass Effect 2? A blockbuster showing for the company, who also revealed Kinect. Part 1 is below, and here’s the link to the full playlist of the show.
2010: Kinect games, Black Ops, and yes, it can run Crysis 2! Microsoft also debuts the redesigned Xbox 360.
2011: Halo 4, Gears 3, Mass Effect 3… this year was a bit more conservative in tech, but huge in games
2012: The Xbox 360 was long in the tooth, and so it was time to say goodbye with a bunch of big games and big names
2013: The Xbox One debuted just a few short weeks prior to E3, and Microsoft used the press event to showcase what games will define the console’s present and future
2014, which brought a ton of game surprises including Tomb Raider again.
2015, or as we like to call it: The year that Hololens took over!
Okay, maybe not. Maybe not even close. But Tomb Raider was great!
In 2016, we found out that the Xbox Scorpio was a thing, and that the Xbox One S was a gorgeous device. Forza Horizon 3 was the best in the series.
In 2017, we met Scorpio, now named XBox One X, saw Forza 7 looking gorgeous, and experienced the next generation of the console
2018: With console launches moving at a much more frequent pace, Microsoft revealed that it was working on its next device, that it was moving into streaming, and that Gears of War POP was a thing. It stole the show, honestly.
2019: And finally, last year’s Xbox event, which gave sneak peaks into the next Xbox (now known as Series X), Outer Worlds, and Keanu Reeves! No, YOU’RE beautiful!
