Remaster of the original game coming this year
Kingdoms of Amalur had a ton of potential as a series way back in the day. Once a product of a growing studio, it provided a good balance to other similar RPGS of the era like Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls. Mixing action and RPG mechanics isn’t new, but when it’s tuned well it can have a solid result. That’s what the game was, and why many have returned to it in the past several years.
Now, it looks like new IP owners THQ Nordic are also returning to it. After an oopsie leak on the XBox Live store, the company officially revealed a remaster of the game, titled Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. The updated version will match the original in content (including all of the DLC) and update visuals and audio to modern capabilities. It’s not a new game, but a true definitive version.
The project was likely to be announced over the next few weeks during one of the many post-E3 2020 related events, but the leak more or less forced the publisher’s hand. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning hits PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 18.
