Five weeks of online competition
The annual EVO fighting series has moved fully online, the organizers have announced. This year’s event will take place over 5 weekends in July and August:
- July 4 to 5
- July 11 to 12
- July 18 to 19
- July 25 to 26
- July 31 to August 2
The big change isn’t just the format, but the games included. Smash Bros Ultimate and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 are no longer a part of the show. In their places will be Mortal Kombat 11, Killer Instinct, Skullgirls 2nd Encore, and Them’s Fightin’ Herds — the formerly My Little Pony fan game that morphed into a new fighting experience. The latter two are in because of their very specific multiplayer software/connection backbone, which lets the games handle battles smoother.
Registration has started this past Friday. All of the battles will take place on the EVO Twitch network.
