Vikings are in, baby. Well, their axes are in — your skull.
Ubisoft has taken the wraps off of the next iteration of Assassin’s Creed, and it’s set in the Ninth Century Norse raids of Britain. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes place as the notorious raiders are converging onto Britain, coming face to face with the Saxons and Alfred the Great.
Players will take control of Viking clan leader Eivor, selecting between a male or female lead, as they not only go on raids but also manage a settlement. Because, unbeknownst to many, Vikings were a social people, with strong internal relationships and family structures. And, as usual, Ubisoft looks like it’ll do a serious job of reflecting realistic history in their game.
Valhalla continues the RPG flavor of Odyssey and adds a slew of features from other games in the series. You like boats from Black Flag and Rogue? Here. Viking rap battles? Hell yeah.
The game will be built around the actions that players take and their interactions with their clan, from building alliances through marriage to choosing which tribes and enemies to go after. Eivor will meet an Odin-like figure, complete with a raven that will become the animal guide for this game, and lightly touch on Norse mythology.
The game was first revealed during an 8-hour artwork creation tease on Wednesday by Ubisoft and artist BossLogic.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the team behind Assassin’s Creed Origins, and will arrive this Holiday season for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia, as well as PS5 & Xbox Series X.
