Playstack and Cold Symmetry are coming together to announce their new project, Mortal Shell. The game, which follows the style of a Dark Souls game (hence the “souls-like” subgenre) is an action RPG that puts the player in the body of an empty vessel for the Gods. This vessel must do the bidding of the Dark Father to collect sacred objects and find the most devout followers, taking on some monstrous foes and demons along the way.
The hook of the game is possibly in the actual mortal shells that bear its namesake. These “shells” are actually the left-behind remnants and bodies of fallen warriors, each presenting unique play styles that affect how one goes through the adventure. It seems interesting in that it’s more than just a weapon we may find in other RPGs — these are entire new play types.
Mortal Shell will arrive for PS4, Xbox One and PC/Steam in Q3 of 2020.
