SDCC is latest to go
It’s been a year.
Wait, it’s only been a month? Well, crap. It’s been a loooong few weeks. And it’ll continue to be long if you’re expecting any gaming events to go to for the foreseeable future. Just over the past week, Gamescom has officially been cancelled. At least, the physical edition of the game. This year Gamescom will be digital only.
Geoff Keighley subsequently confirmed that Opening Night Live event will also be digital only.
SDCC has also announced that it is shutting down, but there will not be a digital event in its place. This is the first time in 50 years that the show will not be taking place. As a venue for major pop culture announcements, the event will be missed for huge moments, from movies to games to TV, but the safety of the typically massive crowds is more important.

Finally, it has been revealed that Anime Expo is now also cancelled. An event that generally deals with anime, obviously, it’s also a location for companies to announces some games, ports and Western releases.
It’ll be back in July 2021.
