Coming to PC and Switch
Alwa’s Awakening was a little gem of a game from a couple years back. The action-exploration-platforming mix was certainly nostalgic, right down to its 8-bit inspired visuals, but the gameplay and precision (and even characters and story elements) helped it stand out as something fresh.
The developers, Elden Pixels, revealed the game’s sequel back at the end of last year, and now they’ve given us a clearer picture of when the next adventurer will arrive. Alwa’s Legacy is hitting Switch and Steam this Summer, and brings with it the same meticulous development and play mechanics of the original, but with a fresh coat of paint and a few new tricks. Legacy may not be an absolutely direct sequel to the original’s story, as we come to find out that after the saving Alwa in Awakening, the hero Zoe awakens at the beginning of her adventure, but with things seeming different this time.
Consider it a sort of retelling of the original game, but with enough to send it on a different path — and with 16-bit visuals. The jump in aesthetic signifies both a narrative change and the opportunity to push some fun art and design updates.
Alway’s Legacy hits this Summer (or Winter, for our Southern Hemi friends).
