Are we putting politics in our VR, or VR in our politics?
Ben Gleib, stand-up comedian, host of the phenomenally funny Idiotest on Netflix, and ACTUAL GOSH DARN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, is known for his push of technology and social media to increase awareness of his campaign and worthy causes. Now, he’s using that mentality to host the first ever Presidential Town Hall in virtual reality.
While we don’t normally post much political content on SideQuesting (durrr, video games), this is interesting in how the use of VR technology is continually expanding beyond just simulating surgeries or vacations with robots. Gleib’s event will utilize Sansar, a giant online virtual world (remember Second Life?) as its backbone, and will play out in Windows PCs. Oculus, Vive and Windows Mixed Reality are all compatible with the service. Tickets are free with an account.
Personally, I’m curious to see how the technology holds up, both from Sansar’s end and VR. Will Gleib be an avatar? A giant floating head? Or will it be a hologram akin to Tupac on stage at Coachella? Hmmm.
The events takes place tonight, October 29, from 7PM PST/10PMEST for about 90 minutes. Gleib is running as a Democratic candidate. Don’t fancy a lot of political talk? Don’t worry: there will be comedy throughout the show. You can go here for the details.
And then go watch Idiotest. Trust us.
