Get smarter between matches of Smash Bros
Nintendo’s already crowded release schedule is getting even more so. The company has announced that DS hit educational/training experience, Brain Age, is coming to the Switch. Brain Age: Nintendo Switch Training is exactly what you think it is, and exactly like its predecessors: a way to seemingly improve your brain power with game-like tasks.
Hint: These don’t actually work. At least, not in any amazing way. Brain training won’t make you smarter, faster, or capable of leaping over tall piles of tax returns. They will, however, help you understand the speed at which you can handle some of the smaller tasks in your mental juggling life. Repetition and mental training of any kind is good, whether it’s through a game, or playing SuDoKu, or learning to say the alphabet backwards in under 2.5 seconds (yes, I can), so doing these specific exercises won’t make you smarter, but they may make you slightly sharper — or at least a little less dull at parties.
Perhaps what’s really cool is the amount of new additions that specifically rely on the Switch hardware, such as the neat infrared hand identification using the IR cam on the Right Joy-Con. A stylus will be launching for the Switch on the same day for many of the activities. These, and other aspects, will be found in the game when it launches in Japan (so far) on December 27.
