A mix of cute and terrifying
Open-world survival games have become commonplace in recent years, so trying to have one stand out is always a difficult, huge task. Ace Team and Good Shepherd Entertainment are trying something a little different in hopes to grab some attention of their own with their latest project, The Eternal Cylinder.
The game quite literally revolves around (no pun intended) a giant cylinder that is constantly rolling over everything on an alien planet. This existential threat of complete and utter destruction adds to an already hectic experience of survival and puzzle-solving. Players control a herd of creatures known as Trebhums — little bulbous creatures with two feet and a snout — as they navigate the world, avoiding traps and hostile creatures on their way to salvation. By eating various items, the Trebhum can evolve and mutate to solve puzzles, gaining abilities that can transform them into cubes or make them stronger to take on some of the planet’s giant beasts and strange cyborg creations.
And then the cylinder. All of that is inconsequential if the cylinder rolls over them, as a sort of massive clocking ticking away at their doom.
The Eternal Cylinder arrives in 2020 for consoles and PC via Epic Games Store in a timed exclusive.
