My name is Reggie and I’m here to kick aesthetics
When Nintendo announces Astral Chain earlier this year, many wondered why they were working on *it* and not Bayonetta 3. Yes, they ARE still working on Bayo 3, but that can’t stop a good studio from coming up with more cool ideas. We didn’t quite know what that was, upon first glance, but now we do.
With its latest trailer and E3 gameplay, Nintendo has opened up the floodgates for Astral Chain information.
The game stars a rookie cop in the future, linked to a special weapon known as Legion. The weapon is essentially man’s last hope against an interdimensional invasion, and so it’s up to us as that cop to save Earth. The game merges a bunch of different gameplay styles together, from action-heavy battles to investigations to some lite RPG elements. The battles themselves feature both human and Legion abilities, ranged weapons, melee and gun battles, and more.
Players can select from a variety of Legion they come across with unique abilities, all based on Sword, Axe, Arrow, Arm and Beast classes, and will traverse the world and Ark City as an apocalypse essentially happens around them. The “synergy” is important to survival and the core of gameplay.
The game is directed by Takahisa Taura (Nier:Automata) and features art & design by manga artist Masakazu Katsura, so the style and substance seems to totally be there to blow our puny minds.
Also: CATS!
Astral Chain launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch on August 30.
