Ever wanted to be stranded at sea? Probably not, but if you were it might be a good idea to try and build a way to survive, maybe a whole town. Floatsam is a city building simulator, but instead of building city streets, you are building rafts and other hastily constructed structures in order to grow your community of overboard survivors. The demo on the show floor was quite limited, but it gave a good indication of where the game might be going.
Survivors can swim off the starting raft to collect resources, but after collecting enough resources you can build a boat, allowing you to go out further and collect bigger hauls to expand your raft community even more. You can also set up fishing platforms to collect food for the community, cook it up or blend it into smoothies for survivors to gain strength and work more efficiently. People have to sleep, so maybe you’ll create houses to make sure they get quality rest. Of course like any good building and crafting game, you will need to find specific resources to build any of these things. These resources might be hard to come by at first, but with some time however you might find ways of generating them at your raft. The show demo featured a few different resources that need to be gathered, but not many buildings or structures to try out and see how they might affect your community in the long run.
Floatsam is currently in closed beta, but hopes to be in open beta by the end of the year.
