The battle royale genre is about to get a little bit bigger, as a spinoff of the Titanfall series is rumored to not only be in the works, but could also be announced and released as early as Monday.
Initial rumors of a free-to-play, battle royale game based on the Titanfall franchise emerged over the last week, initially by YouTuber The Quartering, before even more information was released by esports journalist Rod Breslau. According to Breslau, the game is titled Apex Legends, and will be launching for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Sources who have played and have knowledge of the game confirm to me that Respawn is set to announce and release Apex Legends on Monday Feb 4, a free to play Titanfall Hero Battle Royale game for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

In a series of tweets, Breslau claims that the game will feature “classes/heroes with unique abilities,” and will allow for a maximum of 60 players per server. Unfortunately, and somewhat surprisingly, the game will also apparently feature no Titan mechs, instead focusing on MOBA-like abilities, meaning that it will likely fall more in line with the standard battle royale games that are currently available.
Breslau also reported that the game will feature micro-transactions and loot boxes for cosmetic items, and will be executed similarly to how Overwatch operates. After this information was released, Kotaku reporter Jason Schreier confirmed the rumors, noting that the game “plays like Titanfall mixed with Overwatch and Blackout from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.”
Of course, no official confirmation of the game has been made just yet, but according to both Breslau and Schreier, EA has held events for both streamers and YouTubers this week to show off the game, so it might not be far off from release. While we wait for more information, prepare for a new entry to the genre to drop as early as tomorrow.
