When it first announced Mario Kart Tour exactly one year ago, Nintendo showed that it wasn’t afraid to bring its biggest IP to the mobile space. We already had a Mario game and an Animal Crossing come to the iOS and Android platforms, and now Mario Kart, arguably its biggest selling franchise, would be next. The game was initially set to launch within the fiscal year. In that year’s time Nintendo also released Dragalia Lost, an RPG that’s also proven to be quite popular. Cut to January 2019, with the fiscal year end in sight, and the publisher has opted to push back Mario Kart Tour to later in the year.
To be honest, we still don’t even know what kind of game it will be. Racing game? Racing management? Card battler? Multiplayer? Nintendo has been incredibly vague on the details. We’ll have to speculate a bit further, as the game is now scheduled for “Summer.”
At least there’s a backup plan. The company revealed another new mobile game, ALSO coming this Summer. Dr Mario World will take the puzzle game we all know and turn it into a mobile money-drainer. It feels like a much more perfect fit for phones, and though we don’t have any concrete details (except that the company has partnered with developer LINE) but we can more easily guess what the game could be like.
The doctor is in! Mario puts on the white coat once again in the mobile game Dr. Mario World, targeting an early summer 2019 global release. #DrMario https://t.co/DTRBympHj0 pic.twitter.com/RfMZbbs3Mp
