Just as Punxsutawney Phil was predicting that the world would get an early spring, Sony Pictures Virtual Reality was announcing that a surprise sequel to the famous Groundhog Day film would be in the works, in the form of a video game.
The game, titled Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son, is coming to PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive, and will be set 26 years after the original Harold Ramis film, which starred Bill Murray. Tequila Works, the developers of the game – and creators of Rime – revealed that the game would feature an original story that includes characters from the original film.
Okay, campers! Rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's COOOOLD out there today!

Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son will put players in the shoes of Phil Connors Jr., the son of Bill Murray’s character from the first film. In the game, players will be traveling back to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, and of course will find themselves repeating the same day over and over. Much like the initial film, Phil Connors Jr. will have to learn the true values of friendship and family in order to escape the nightmare of living the same day over and over,
According to the developers, the game will include a “time loop mechanic” that offers multiple branching narratives, and will allow the devs to include various meaningful stories that players will experience. Not only will players have more of an influence on the story, but they will also have a “deeper emotional connection” to the non-playable characters found within.
Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son will launch for PSVR later this year.
