Boy, 2019 has been a hell of a year so far in the world of Wrestling. With the announcement of new promotions to a hell of a showing from New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 13 to things changing in the WWE, things have been wild. Heck, ever since the McMahons came out to RAW after the TLC PPV to announce that change is coming to the WWE Universe, it has been a hell of a ride: wrestlers you haven’t seen in a while are now back on TV, storylines have been better on both shows (even though RAW still needs a lot of work), and they’ve been allowing talent to showcase their abilities (for example: Rey Mysterio vs Andrade Almas WWE Smackdown’s 01/15 and 01/22 matches).
This Sunday is the first PPV for WWE of 2019, and the road to Wrestlemania starts with the Royal Rumble. Let’s start the prediction machine.
Note: No, I will not be covering pre-show matches because we all know what the WWE think about pre-shows: they don’t count.
Brock Lesnar(c) vs Finn Bálor for the Universal Championship:
What the WWE needs is to have the Universal Championship be relevant again. The last time the belt was mentioned every week was when Roman Reigns held the title before vacating it due to his leukemia returning, leaving the company to battle over it. Ever since Brock won the title at Crown Jewel, it barely gets a mention or even shown on RAW. WWE needs to do the right thing and allow Finn to win the title from Brock… but I do not think that will happen considering how much money the WWE is paying Brock per appearance.
Predicted Winner: Brock Lesnar
Daniel Bryan(c) vs AJ Styles for the WWE Championship:
The past few weeks between AJ and Daniel has been a hell of a storyline. Vince McMahon wants AJ to be the old AJ that was ruthless and aggressive and the new Daniel is the heel Daniel that we all wanted, and promos like this one below makes him that much greater.
I believe this will be a hell of a match and potentially one of the best match of the night. Either of the two can win the title and I would not complain at all. But I believe the way that Daniel is rolling in his heel persona and I want that ball to continue to roll.
Predicted Winner: Daniel Bryan
Ronda Rousey(c) vs Sasha Banks for the RAW Women’s Championship:
As I am writing this, rumors are going around saying that Ronda will be done with WWE after Wrestlemania. If that is the case then I do not see how WWE would let Ronda drop the belt before ‘Mania. But maybe Sasha could win and could set up a Four Horsewomen of WWE vs Four Horsewomen of MMA. But I do not see that happening anytime soon.
Predicted Winner: Ronda Rousey
The Bar(c) vs The Miz and Shane McMahon for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship:
Uhhh I don’t know how to put this lightly: Not too excited about this match at all. It’s most likely a bathroom break for me. Also as much as I would like the Miz and Shane to win, I don’t think Shane would have it in him to compete week in and week out. Especially at house shows.
Predicted Winner: The Bar
Asuka(c) vs Becky Lynch for the SmackDown Women’s Championship:
This match will be a solid fight. There is a lot of hype around the fighters and this match and I am not sure if the match itself will meet everyone’s expectation. I sure hope I am wrong about this. Both Asuka and Becky are red hot but the Man is just hotter right now. As much as I would love for Asuka to retain — especially since this is her first title defense — I think Becky will take the title again considering how over she is right now. Or. if this match is on early enough and Asuka does retain, Becky could potentially enter into the Women’s Royal Rumble and win to face Ronda Rousey for the RAW Championship at Wrestlemania.
Predicted Winner: Becky Lynch
Men’s and Women’s Royal Rumble:
Here is who I think will win the rumble:
- Men’s: Seth Rollins
- Women’s: Charlotte
I can see a scenario where both Seth and Charlotte winning the Rumble and face Brock and Ronda respectively. I am more interested who will show up from NXT and past wrestlers. This is why I love the Royal Rumble: you never know who will show up.
I plan on doing a live stream on twitch to give my reaction as it is happening. See you guys on Sunday!
