The first trailer for WB’s Detective Pikachu is here, and it’s giving us serious Roger Rabbit vibes.
The film stars Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu, whom is heartbroken that humans only hear utter the words “pika pika.” That all changes when he meets a young wannabe Pokémon trainer Tim, played by Justice Smith, on his quest to find his missing detective father. The two pair up in Ryme City, meet other pocket monsters, and manage to WIN OUR HEARTS WITH FLUFFY YELLOW ELECTRIC SQUIRREL MICE.
The mix of live action and animation looks like it could be supremely done well here, while maintaining the feel of the collectible monsters themselves.
The film arrives in Summer 2019, and will be followed by the next main Pokémon game coming to Switch in the Fall of the same year.
