During its X018 conference, Microsoft revealed that Humble Bundle would be publishing a new game for its consoles.
Void Bastards, developed by Blue Manchu, mixes FPS and strategy play, with elements of BioShock and Dead Space thrown in. The game is developed by BioShock vets, so the DNA is certainly there. However, the visual style may be unlike anything we’ve ever seen in this style of game. Graphic novel illustration is all the rage in video games lately, as we’ve just seen with GRIS, and that translates across here as well. From thick outlines to flat gradations, to simplified details with emphasis on animation and not necessarily frame rate, Void Bastards will at least be the most eye-popping FPS to come across in a long time.
The premise has players guiding survivors on a trek through enemy space, upgrading and defending, attacking when the time is right. The game will be choice driven, meaning that it will weave back and forth across a map as players win or make their way through areas — or not.
Void Bastards is scheduled for 2019 on Xbox One and PC.
