The classic SNK series makes a surprise return.
Samurai Shodown (Samurai Spirits in Japan) was a phenomenal fighting game series in the early life of the genre. Featuring weapons-based 1-on-1 battles, it had elements that Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat didn’t, and lasted well into the last gen. Now, with fighting game reboots all the rage, it’s making a comeback for the first time since 2008.
Revealed this week at Sony’s PlayStation Lineup 2018 event, the game will be built on the Unreal Engine and feature a brushstroke/painted art style a la Street Fighter IV. It arrives on PS4 in 2019.
