Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed makes a return to Nintendo consoles.
In a surprise twist, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will be making the, uh, odyssey onto Nintendo’s Switch. During the Japanese version of this week’s Nintendo Direct, the company revealed the game would be arriving on the device alongside the Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions this year in Japan. Because the Switch isn’t necessarily a powerhouse of the same level as its console brethren, the game will actually be streamed from the cloud, similar to Capcom’s Resident Evil VII take earlier this year.
It’s currently Japan-only, and will undoubtedly require a pretty hefty WiFi connection, but as the second major AAA game to launch in this way it could mean a shift for how publishers approach bringing giant games onto the device.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Cloud Version launches October 5 in Japan.
