One of the longest-requested characters to appear in Super Smash Bros has finally made his arrival, and he’s brought a few friends.
Castlevania‘s Simon Belmont has almost been as much a part of Nintendo lore as Mario himself, appearing in two games on the NES and a TV show, as well as a few miscellaneous pop-ups now and again. He was the face of the series for a long time, and the original Belmont hero, and fans have been clamoring for him to show his face in Smash Bros since at least the Wii era. Well now he’s here. During this week’s Nintendo Direct reveal, Belmont brings his trusty whip, glaive, holy water and more to battle the armies of Mario, Zelda and others. Also revealed: Simon’s ancestor Richter, who’s been floating around since Rondo of Blood, will be his playable Echo Fighter (or, slightly altered palette & polygon swap).
The Direct also announced that Dark Samus (Samus Aran’s echo fighter) and Chrom (Fire Emblem’s Ike’s echo fighter) will be making their ways into the playable list.
Finally, as far as characters go, the stalwart enemy of Donkey Kong (we guess?), King K. Rool, will be arriving to the now massive selection of playable fighters.
With so many characters now available, is there anyone left? We can name a few, honestly… Give us Goku (DragonBall Z) and Ribbon Girl (ARMs) please!
Super Smash Bros Ultimate arrives exclusively on Nintendo Switch in December.
