At E3 2018, Nintendo announced two classic arcade games will be making their way to consoles for the first time.
Arcade Archives Donkey Kong and Arcade Archives Sky Skipper are the console versions of two games seemingly lost to the aether of time. Originally released in 1981, Donkey Kong is the classic arcade game we all know and love, in which the ape tosses barrels at a pre-Mario Jumpman. It’s been mostly absent from home gaming, releasing only in ports and variations. The game will include three versions (Early, Later and International versions) and feature online leaderboards for high scores. ACA Donkey Kong releases today on the Nintendo Switch eShop for $7.99.
Meanwhile, Sky Skipper never made it outside of Japanese arcades. The original wasn’t received well in Japan, and when Nintendo brought the game to the US it is said that many were converted into Popeye cabinets. It’s a plane piloting experience that even features a familiar looking gorilla. ACA Sky Skipper will release in July.
