With ginormous AAA game announcements and reveals, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle of E3. These games are worth your time to peak at.
Ooblets (Glumberland)
Shown during this year’s PC Gaming Show event at E3, Double Fine Productions & developer Glumberland’s Ooblets combines town coordination, farming, dancing and animals. It arrives on Xbox One and PC this year, and looks ab-so-lutely adorable.
Sable (Shedworks)
Also revealed during the PC Gaming Show, Sable tells the story of the title character on a deep, emotional and self-reflective journey to discover the secrets of an alien desert. The visual style is graphically stunning. Look for it on PC and console in 2019.
Stormland (Insomniac Games)
When not making games about jumping around, Insomniac has been hard at work on a VR experience. Stormland tells the story of a robot gardener who’s body has been broken by an entity known as the Tempest. Players control the robot on its journey to put itself together and help save its robot friends. And there’s also jumping. Stormland is being designed exclusively for the Oculus Rift and is due in 2019.
Satisfactory (Coffee Stain)
Space exploration is all the rage now, both in real life and in gaming. Satisfactory looks to ratchet things up a few notches by letting us explore planets, harvest materials and build factories (hence the name, SatisFACTORY — get it?). These hubs can eventually grow into towns and industrial centers, especially since the game can be played co-op with friends. Look for it “when it’s done.”‘
Knights & Bikes (Foam Sword)
Double Fine has another interesting looking game in development, this time with Foam Sword. Knights & Bikes has an Earthbound vibe, set in the UK and focusing on two childhood friends as their RPG-lite story unfolds. The hand-painted visual style is pretty striking. No release date yet.
My Friend Pedro (Dead Toast)
This is a bizarre one. My Friend Pedro stars a gun-happy hero being led on 2D side-scrolling missions by his sentient banana. Coming in 2019 to Switch and PC.
Beat Saber (Beat Games)
Beat Saber is a rhythm action game for PSVR, with players wielding dual colored swords and slashing away at matching colors in the music path. It almost looks like VR laser drumming, to be honest. Developer Beat Games is bringing this game to the console later this year.
Ghost Giant (Zoink Games)
Fe and Flipping Death developer Zoink Games tries its hand at VR with Ghost Giant, a novel game in which players control a giant who must shape the world around its feline friend to guide it on its journey.
