Okay, that headline is a bit misleading. Not *every* game is getting delayed, but a sure heck of a lot of them are moving out of the way of Red Dead Redemption 2, Battlefield V, Spider-Man and Smash Bros.
Whatever your gaming device of choice is, it’s getting hit with delays of some big games. In the lead up to E3 2018, the gaming industry is starting to shake out the remainder of the year’s schedule. Whether it’s game quality or just an overly packed release calendar, the move of many games isn’t unexpected.
Here’s what’s been announced just this past week.
Ubisoft’s Skull & Bones delayed into fiscal year between April 1st 2019 and March 30, 2020
Skull and Bones will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One X and PC during Ubisoft’s next fiscal year (from April 1st 2019 to March 31st, 2020).
The extra time will allow the team at Ubisoft Singapore to deliver on their ambition to create the ultimate pirate game.
Indivisible delayed into the first half of 2019
Indivisible has been delayed until the first half of 2019.
While we did everything we could to prevent this from happening, the simple reality is that Indivisible ended up being a much larger project than we could have anticipated when the game was conceived way back in 2015. A number of other issues related to shipping a product of this size contributed to this decision, but the main issue is just the sheer number of assets this game requires and the time needed to deliver them at the quality you expect from a Lab Zero game.
The Wolf Among Us: Season 2 delayed into sometime in 2019
The Wolf Among Us 2, based on Bill Willingham’s award-winning Fables comic book series from DC’s Vertigo imprint, will now launch in 2019, rather than the latter half of 2018. This delay comes as the result of a few fundamental changes here at Telltale since we first announced the game last summer.
Most importantly, we’re committed to exploring new ways to tell our stories. Taking this extra time will allow us not only to focus on quality but also to experiment and iterate in order to craft something truly special.
Shenmue III has moved out of 2017 into 2018 some time in 2019
Deep Silver today announce that their upcoming release Shenmue III has been moved and will now release in 2019.
The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe.
Metro Exodus is now arriving in 2019
We want everyone to be able to experience what is the most ambitious Metro game to date at its absolute best and therefore we have taken the decision to move the release date to Q1 2019. We know that this will be disappointing news for fans that had hoped to play the game this year, but also know that you will appreciate the results that this additional development time and new release date will bring.
