When Nintendo announced that they were creating a new Star Fox game, we flipped out. SWEET! FINALLY! AWESOME!
Then the game finally arrived and we were sad. At least there was a cartoon.
Released just shortly before it, Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins served as a prequel to the game. It features Fox and crew as Andross begins his assault. Developed by Production IG and Wit Studio, the animation is crisp and clean, and uses CGI to augment hand drawings. It looks and sounds great, no matter if the actual content isn’t all that good. The Battle Begins only lasts about 14 minutes, barely giving us any real drama or action. It’s mostly Fox talking to friends.
At least we got Star Fox 2 a couple of years later.
