Nintendo’s CEO Tatsumi Kimishima stepping down in June

Tatsumi Kimishima, who took over as Nintendo’s President in 2015 when Satoru Iwata passed away, will be stepping down from his position in June of this year. Announced today, Kimishima (who himself noted in the past that his tenure would be temporary until a suitable replacement was found) will be taking a supportive role to the new incoming President.

That man is Shuntaro Furukawa, just 44 years old, who has worked at the company in accounting and marketing roles since 1994. Furukawa has been more hands-on with how the Switch was positioned in the market, and so Kimishima has been essentially grooming him to be his successor. Furukawa has spent time in Europe with the company, working in Germany, and has noted that he grew up having a passion for and playing the Famicom (NES) in the 1980s.
