The newest Dragon Quest epic is making its arrival West this year.
SquareEnix has announced that Dragon Quest XI, the sequel to Dragon Quest X, will be arriving in North America and Europe this year. Actually, THIS SEPTEMBER!
Woohoo!
But wait, there’s more!
The totally awesome 3DS version that lets you flip between classic 2D and modern 3D, will NOT be coming along.
It’s true, it’s true. The only versions making their way to our English-speaking hands(?) will be for the PlayStation 4 and the PC, which perhaps tips SquareEnix’s hand at how they intend to exit the portable space. The 3DS is on its last legs in the world, and especially in the US where focus has shifted to the Switch and mobile gaming, so forcing a localization may not be the best thing monetarily.
Bummer!
SE has at least given word that the long-in-development Switch version is still going to make it (eventually), though we don’t exactly know when.
Anyhoo, on to killing slimes! Dragon Quest XI launches September 4.
