Nintendo has announced an update coming to Super Mario Odyssey that will add in a brand new asymmetric minigame.
Luigi’s Balloon World isn’t a separate kingdom in the game. Rather, it will task players with hiding and finding balloons scattered around the game’s environs. Two modes comprise the experience.
“Hide It” asks players to hide a balloon somewhere in a level in the fastest time possible. That data is then uploaded online, where other players — via the “Find It” mode — need to discover the whereabouts within that same amount of time or less. The better people are at hiding and finding balloons, the higher they’ll move up the leaderboards.
The minigame seems like a great way to get players back into levels that they’ve already completed ad scoured clean. Once the Power Moons have been discovered, there isn’t much need to head back to kingdoms. Nintendo has handed the addicting collection aspect of the game over to players, letting them hide and find items. It’s damn near genius.
Along with the minigame, new outfits will be added as well.
The update lands in February.
