Well, that escalated quickly.
The Nintendo Switch, the little portable/home hybrid device that left us perplexed when it was revealed in October of 2016, launched in March of 2017. In just the 10 months that followed, it has somehow become the fastest selling console in US history. In that span it managed to shift more than 4.8 Million consoles. Yes, that means that it bested Nintendo’s own Wii (which held the title until now) and the PS1, PS2 and everything else before it.
That’s a LOT of consoles.
Here’s the crazy bit, though. Nearly 55 percent of Switch owners have bought launch titles The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but over 60 percent have picked up Super Mario Odyssey, which arrived at the end of October. Mario is still popular, it seems!
So, 2017 was pretty good!
There are rumors of a Nintendo Direct coming later this month, which could reveal what’s coming to the device in the first part of 2018 amid hopes to keep the momentum going.
