The creators of Despicable Me will be handling the plumber’s return to the big screen.
Illumination Entertainment, home of Minions, SING, Secret Life of Pets and more, will be partnering with Nintendo to bring the biggest star in gaming to theaters. The film will be co-produced by Illumination’s founder, Chris Meledandri, and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto.

No release date or information for the film has been revealed, but this marks the long-awaited return of character to film. Nintendo has expressed a renewed interest over the last few years of expanding the use of its IP for non-gaming projects. Rumors had previously swirled around about film projects with Sony and TV series with Netflix.
