Pokémon GO is still going strong. Sure, it’s not as wild as that first magical Summer, but there are occasional jumps in playership for the augmented reality monster hunting game. Money is still pouring in, and Niantic — the game’s developers — could really just sit back and smoke some phat cigars while they watch their piles of cash grow.
How nice!
But the company isn’t doing that. Instead, it’s already preparing for its next big AR multiplayer game, and it looks like it’ll nail the idea perfectly. Meet Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
Very few licenses could work well enough for a giant location-based AR experience like GO did, but the Potter series is perhaps perfect. With four major Hogwarts houses to choose from, a step up from GO‘s three factions, Wizards Unite will have plenty of teams available for aspiring wizards to join as they battle monsters, learn spells, and take down “legendary beasts” in the game.
While no timetable is set for the experience, Niantic promises that more info will be revealed in the coming months. The developer is working with WB Games and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on the project.
