With The Last Jedi just over a month away, and the final Star Wars film in the 9-movie series arriving in a couple of years, many fans began to wonder about what could be next.
Now we have our answer.
A whole new trilogy is on the way, confirmed today by Disney. The new trilogy, which is undated, will be helmed by Rian Johnson, Director of The Last Jedi. The new films will take place outside of the Star Wars universe (galaxy?) that we all know, and will center around an entirely new story and cast. Putting a bow on the current story may make fans feel a little better, especially since nine main films, two spin-offs and a ton of cartoons and books all live within that IP, spreading it quite thin.
Let’s just hope that this isn’t the opportunity for Disney to start mixing Marvel characters in there… I don’t think I want to see the Infinity Gems explained by The Force.
