During its Treehouse Live at E3 this year, Nintendo revealed that it is remaking the Gameboy classic Metroid 2.
Metroid: Samus Returns is a completely reimagined version of the original portable Metroid game. Nintendo commissioned developer Mercury Steam to produce the remake, which includes several upgrades.
From shiny visuals to new music, cut scenes to special moves, the changes are significant. Free Aim will allow Samus to shoot anywhere on the screen, and a melee counter lets our hero counter enemy attacks with critical hits.
New abilities are added outside of the traditional suit upgrades. Aeon abilities are augments that have their own energy sources, providing limited uses. Scan Pulse, for example, allows Samus to discover hidden areas in different map quadrants.
Metroid: Samus Returns arrives September 15 on Nintendo 3DS.
