TT Games & WB’s LEGO Dimensions is still chugging along, almost two years after release, with great new content. There are a billion properties available to draw from if and when they go further, instead of forcing a full sequel like Skylanders and Disney Infinity did. It’s kind of like its own world, where studios can release toys and content for the platform to go along with their newest films, so it’s always staying fresh.
The newest IPs coming to the game, Wave 9’s Beetlejuice, Powerpuff Girls and Teen Titans GO!, each bring very different play styles.
The Teen Titans GO! hub world is a sort of cell-shaded comic book zone, lending to the aesthetic of the cartoon. I played around in it with the Powerpuff Girls, who’s own cell-shaded visual design fits right in. The girls’ powers translate well from the newly rebooted TV show, but the figures themselves are fantastically awesome. The big eyes and wild proportions are bizarre enough alone but seem to work well in the game.
The Teen Titans themselves are interesting, as dropping any Titans character that was previously released for other sets (Robin & Cyborg) switches them over into their GO! versions. The game even features an exclusive episode of the show done in the LEGO style.
Beetlejuice’s show stealer is his world design, which includes the same bizarre afterlife that made the movie so great. Also: sand worms.
Expect these latest packs to drop in the Fall.
