Hot Take!
Let me start by saying that I was very underwhelmed with the Microsoft E3 Press Conference as a whole. Now that we have that out of the way let me explain why.
Microsoft started the show talking about Project Scorpio, now known as XBox One X, which will be the most powerful gaming console to date. I view the newest console as a mini PC tower similar to what some PC gamers are building these days. The console isn’t what made the conference underwhelming though, it was their gaming line up. There wasn’t a single title that they showed that got me that interested to drop $500 on a console with a main selling point of ultra 4K resolution. Yes, graphically it will look amazing and probably make me change my pants a few times, but as a consumer, I do not own a 4K TV at the moment and I do not plan on getting one any time soon. I still have the XBox One and I am still happy playing games on it and using it as a media device, especially for my son who loves watching Baby Bum videos on YouTube.
Sure, Metro Exodus, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Anthem and many others look great and I am excited for those titles but I can play those same titles on the PC. The one game that I am extremely excited for is Dragon Ball Fighters Z because it’s the Dragon Ball game that I have always wanted.
So, here’s a question for Microsoft: how many PC users were you planning to convert over to the XBox One X? ‘Cause you can count me out… for now.
