Earlier today, rumors broke out of Eurogamer that a Super NES Mini console was coming this holiday season.
According to the website, sources close to the product’s development have confirmed to them that the console was in development for release later this year. Just last week we speculated that one of the reasons that the NES Mini was being discontinued was because a Super NES Mini was on its way. It looks like our analysis may have been right on.
According to those same sources, in order to meet the demand of a new Mini, the company had to shift manufacturing focus away from the NES version, which would explain the sudden stop in production. This is still just a rumor, so take all of it with a grain of salt.
Either way the real story here isn’t that the console is in production, but what games would be on it. As good as the NES was, the Super NES had superior games in every way (in our honest opinions). We’ve compiled a list of what we believe is a solid collection of games. It may not be “the best of the best” but it does touch on many genres instead of being too heavy on one or another, similar to what the NES Classic Mini did. That means it’s not too heavy with RPGs or Action or Sports games… just the best of each category. The list also realizes that licensing agreements might limit the amount of third party games within the device, so those would have to be kept to a minimum as well.
We asked Twitter to find out what some of those games should be, and we received interesting results. Take a look at what you told us, and compare it to our list below. Feel free to leave a comment or a tweet telling us how completely wrong we are.
