Rumored over the last year, Blizzard Entertainment has formally StarCraft: Remastered, an updated version of its mega popular RTS game from the Nineties.
The game has been visually updated to hit 4K, and will retain the same campaign as the original, albeit with improved, “modern” multiplayer gaming. The game will also update its audio and dialog, and add full Blizzard app (formerly Battle.net) and in-game voice support.
Many attribute StarCraft with putting esports on the map, and it’s still played today in tournaments and competitions. Modernizing the competitive aspect will help it against other esports games, like League of Legends and its Blizzard stablemates Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch. While StarCraft II has been popular, most believe that it hasn’t come close to eclipsing the original.
In addition to the remaster, Blizzard will be giving away the OG StarCraft and its Brood War expansion for free next week.
StarCraft: Remastered arrives this year in Q2/Q3.
