Though there are only a dozen or so games announced for the Nintendo Switch’s launch month, March certainly won’t be without things to do. Nintendo has announced that a Splatoon 2 Global Testfire — a beta meant to stress-test the game’s servers — will be coming to the console for the weekend of March 24-26.
Global Testfires were common on the Wii U’s edition of Splatoon leading up to the game’s launch. The events pitted 8 players against each other on teams of 4, and focused on capturing the most land for each team. They were mostly replaced with Splatfests (multiplayer challenges) when the game released, but this is the first time that the company has mentioned a similar event for the upcoming console. Splatoon became a worldwide hit for Nintendo, selling millions of copies and developing a considerable following and community in Japan. The event will allow players to use four different main weapons, including the new Dualies. The times are as follows:
March 24
12-12:59 p.m. PT

4-4:59 a.m. PT

Nintendo also announced that the sequel will feature 8-player LAN play and a spectator mode, allowing for matches to be watched by non-players. The LAN play allows for 10 systems to be linked together, with the two spectators switching camera views and more for commentary and streaming. Both of these will be a boon for the game’s eSports hopes.
Splatoon 2 launches in Summer exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
