In a surprise announcement, Capcom will be bringing a new Street Fighter game to the Nintendo Switch.
Well, kind of new.
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers is an update to the classic Street Fighter game that adds several pieces of new content. Street Fighter II was ported to the Super NES just a year after it hit arcades, and spawn a few updates and sequels on the console — all of which were terrifically received. While Capcom hasn’t created any new Street Fighter games for Nintendo’s consoles (SF IV was ported to the 3DS in a 3D Edition) this marks a return of sorts.
The game will feature two graphical modes: pixel (to match the classic look of the games) and hand-drawn HD (using assets created by UDON). The game will allow for two players to team up against the computer, for added multiplayer, as well as new single player modes.
Two new characters also enter the game — let’s call them the final challengers. Evil Ryu and Violent Ken are altered versions of the SF mainstays, bringing updated move sets and powers.
No date has been revealed for the game, but we will here more about it in the coming months.
