Super Mario Odyssey announced for Switch, coming Holiday 2017 to New Donk City

We have a brand new Super Mario game coming!

Announced during a live stream tonight, Super Mario Odyssey takes the mustached plumber out of the Mushroom Kingdom and across new worlds and locations, including one so similar to ours that we’re calling it New Donk City.

The game is being designed in the sandbox style of Super Mario 64 & Super Mario Sunshine, giving players a giant world to explore and adventure in, with height and depth at the center. Mario will jump across buildings and city streets, he’ll venture into jungles, travel to Mexican vistas and swim under water. Many of the level designs seemed to pay homage to past Mario games like Super Mario Bros 2, 3 and Galaxy.

The game is being designed to mimic the sense of wonder people have when they travel to new places around the world.

Every Mario game needs some kind of new weapon, and Odyssey gives the hero a living cap (with eyes) that can be thrown like a boomerang at enemies.

Super Mario Odyssey arrives exclusively to the Nintendo Switch for Holiday 2017.
