The rumors and leaks were real. Nintendo’s Switch will arrive with a port of Mario Kart 8 coming soon after.
The best Mario Kart game is potentially getting huge improvements on the Nintendo Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will bring the Wii U gem and all of its DLC into one package. Additionally, the game will add in 5 new characters — the male and female Inklings from Splatoon, Dry Bones, King Boo and Bowser Jr. — and new courses inspired by both classic Mario Kart tracks and new games like Splatoon. Three new vehicles will also be added.
An updated control method, Smart Steering, will be available for those who aren’t as experienced in Mario Kart games, even up to 200cc speeds. Players will now also be able to hold two items at once, which was a (small) complaint in the original MK8.
The biggest addition is perhaps that there will be a for-real battle mode, complete with contained courses, instead of running around existing tracks. This was a big point of issue with fans, as it deviated heavily from previous games.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will arrive April 28.
