During a special presentation/live stream last night at Jump Fest 2017, Square Enix unwrapped more details about the upcoming Dragon Quest XI.
The game is the next in the long line of popular JRPGs (Japanese Role Playing Games) from the publisher, following up the online-only Dragon Quest X and several recent spinoffs (Heroes I & II, Builders) and remakes (VII, VIII). Like previous entries, the game is (again) the tale of a young hero, his thief friend Camus and their band of warriors on a quest to defeat an unspeakable evil. The presentation revealed that the game will take place in a world known as Lotozetasia, which houses a giant World Tree in the center.
The publisher revealed the opening cinematic for the game, which shows off the characters, battles with enemies, and even flying on the backs of dragons.
The live stream also revealed gameplay for both the PS4 and the 3DS versions, showing the now-familiar character art rendered both in detailed HD and on the small screen.
The live stream revealed details for both the PS4 and 3DS versions of the game, and although a Nintendo Switch version has been mentioned in the past it was not shown or discussed during the event, and is not listed on the game’s teaser site or trailers.
The game arrives in 2017.
