Here’s a crazy bit of news: Blaster Master is back.

INTI Creates and Sunsoft are partnering to remake/update the original Blaster Master game that appeared so many decades ago on the NES. Using the original assets, INTI Creates will be adding in new levels & weapons and updating the plot, and releasing the game on the Nintendo 3DS as Blaster Master ZERO.

This isn’t a full remake or an HD update —  the developers are quite literally using the original artwork for the game. This is as 8-bit as it can get.

Set in the far future, Blaster Master ZERO stars Jason Frudnick as he pilots his SOPHIA-3 vehicle into the labyrinthine underground of a lost civilization on Earth. Players will once again use a mix of both 2D platforming and overhead views as they hop into and out of their vehicle, battle bosses, and explore.

Blaster Master Zero arrives in Spring 2017, but it’s been in our hearts for almost 30 years already.
