Saturday Cinema: Power Rangers, Class, Pokémon and Resident Evil’s Final Chapter trailers

It’s New York Comic Con week, and the videos and teasers for upcoming projects have exploded into our eyes and ears. We’re gathering up our favorites for this weekend’s viewing pleasure and posted them here. A lot of awesome Sci-Fi and game-based films & TV round out an impressive upcoming slate of entertainment! What are you looking forward to?

Doctor Who may not be coming back until Spring at the earliest, but that doesn’t mean his universe will be gone for a while. BBC’s Class is based on a group of students solving supernatural & alien problems, and will even interact with the Doctor early in its show. The show arrives in the UK and Canada on October 22, while we in the US will have to wait until 2017. Sad face.

Speaking of the Doctor, BBC has posted a behind the scenes look at this year’s Christmas Special, titled “The Return of Doctor Mysterio.” This year, we see our first super hero in the Doctor’s universe!

And, speaking of super heroes, we’ve been anticipating the upcoming Power Rangers movie for a while now. Whether you like the costume designs or not, the film looks like it will take a more serious route with the characters. Well, as serious as 5 kids who can transform into a giant being to battle equally giant aliens can be. Power Rangers hits theaters in January.

More super hero action will be coming in 2017 with the release of the oddly B-Movie styled Ninjak vs The Valiant Universe, based on the sort of popular hero of the… Valiant universe of comics. Straight to video?

The final Defender is here! Marvel’s Iron Fist will bring one of the more classic comic characters to the small screen, as Netflix has just wrapped up filming the series. After Iron Fist hits (pun intended) we move on to The Defenders, which it has also revealed to have cast Sigourney Weaver as it’s main antagonist. Bring on 2017!

John Wick is BACK. Our favorite hitman, with possibly one of the best action movies of the last decade, returns in John Wick Chapter 2. The first film became an instant classic/cult hit/whatever, and the sequel looks just as amazing. Also: new dog!

There are some upcoming game-based films as well, and they don’t look half bad! Yokai Watch: The Movie is finally hitting Stateside for one night on October 15. The Level 5 gaming property is huge in Japan, and only recently broken into the US. Though the show is apparently doing well on TV here, it’ll be interesting to see if the film moves the needle any further.

Speaking of games that involves the supernatural, the Resident Evil film series is reaching its finale. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter stars Milla Jovovich for the last time, closing out the series. It actually looks kind of fun! However, with the popularity of games starting to bubble upward again, we wouldn’t be surprised if they chose to reboot the films sometime down the line as well. Look for it in theaters in January.

Another film series that features supernatural elements and seems to be ending its run is Underworld. The latest, Blood Wars, brings back Kate Beckinsale as Seline, as new Lycans appear to cause trouble. This also arrives in January. Looks like the beginning of the year will be a solid month of films.

Finally, since we’re actually a website focused on games as well, the latest Pokémon Sun and Moon trailer is here to show us the Legendary forms of Solgaleo and Lunala. They’re only in there briefly, but the video is worth it. Look for the game in November on 3DS.
