The Legend of Zelda is hitting its 30th anniversary, and for a change it looks like Nintendo is doing something quite interesting with the celebration.
Announced during last week’s Nintendo Direct, the company gave first glimpse at new amiibo themed across the series’ history.
Much like Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros anniversary inspired retro 8-bit amiibo, a block 8-bit Link will join the line. Meant to represent the visual style of the original game, Link will be in his green tunic and sporting his signature sword and shield.
Following 8-bit Link will be his Ocarina of Time incarnation. This much more realistic styled hero matches the concept art used to promote the N64 game, right down to Link’s pose with his ocarina.
Finally, we’ll get a second edition of Wind Waker‘s Toon Link, this time joined by Toon Zelda from the Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks games.
Each of these will work as standard amiibo with the same functionality in games like Smash Bros and Hyrule Warriors, and will have special functions in the upcoming Breath of the Wild.
That will bring the total count of Zelda based amiibo to 13. They are:
- Smash Bros Link
- Smash Bros Zelda
- Smash Bros Ganon
- Smash Bros Toon Link
- Smash Bros Sheikh
- Twilight Princess Midna & Wolf Link
- Breath of the Wild Link Archer
- Breath of the Wild Link Rider
- Breath of the Wild Guardian
- 8 Bit Link
- Ocarina of Time Link
- Toon Link 2
- Toon Zelda
The new amiibo are due later this Fall.
