Nintendo is rereleasing the NES, Pokemon is bigger than ever, Jumanji is coming back, and now ToeJam and Earl is being revived — Holy Moses, it’s the 90s all over again!
Adult Swim Games has announced that it will be publishing ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove, a new game for the classic 90s license, in 2017. Developed by HumanNature Studios, the game goes back to the original’s isometric action & puzzle solving format, as opposed to TJ&E 2‘s platforming change.
The concept of two alien rappers crash-landing on Earth is still intact, as the new game looks to have some of the same early-90’s musical stylings and references. The updated art style eschews the Sega Genesis’s 16-bit pixels for a more hand-drawn, cartoon look. Which, for all intents and purposes, is probably pretty spot on with Adult Swim.
Now, let’s all forget the Xbox’s ToeJam & Earl III ever existed and crown this as the true worthy successor to the alien rapper title.
Expect it on PC and consoles next year.
