Nintendo has been increasing their brand awareness lately, partnering with many companies for products from games to theme parks. Now we can add fashion to the mix, as the company is working with Vans on a limited-run shoe and clothing line.
Nintendo isn’t a stranger to fashion — go into any Target or Hot Topic and you’ll see stacks of Super Mario t-shirts and wallets — but what makes this unique is the execution. Vans x Nintendo is more than just a logo dump, it’s a collaboration that includes texture work, Nintendo-specific cover patterns, and design work. As someone who works with textile designers on a regular basis, being able to apply a design is a ton of work. Images need to be placed in the correct spot, patterns spaced and rotated for specific intended viewing angles, and color palettes must be iterated upon for days or weeks.
This, coupled with the craftsmanship that Vans is known for, results in well-executed actual fashion pieces. You’ll want to collect these, not just wear them.
The collection is limited, so that may be a queue to take our own wallets out. Shoes, shirts, and more are available for women, men, and children of all sizes.
